The New Balance 1080, the eagerly expected updated version of the popular 1064 model is available since January of 2011. The New Balance’s flagship neutral running sneakers most certainly look impressive and considering they are a New Balance, there is little doubt about their performance. However, let’s see if they are really as good as they appear to be and what the runner’s world has to say about these sneakers.
The most notable improvement of the successor to the 1064 model is more cushioning providing more comfortable run and improved heel support. The advanced N-ergy cushioning gel in the heel does not only provide maximum shock absorption but also gives an extra bounce making running more enjoyable. The ABZORB Strobel Board running through the entire length of the sneaker further reduces the impact shock when landing on the ground and makes the transition from heel to toe much smoother. The Stability Web in the midfoot provides the necessary support to the arch, while the design of the midsole provides more contact with the ground. The 1080 model also features a number of other New Balance’s most recent innovations and technology which make it extremely light, flexible and breathable. Another great feature is the Ortholite foam strobel board which among other helps prevent unpleasant odor, so you will not have to feel embarrassed due to the stinky sneakers any longer.
The New Balance 1080 has been very well received by long distance runners who are particularly impressed by the advanced cushioning system providing a comfortable fit as well as a comfortable ride. Most runners agree that it is not the softness what makes the New Balance 1080 one of the best neutral running shoes on the market but the outstanding shock absorption and great return of energy both of which are highly important in long distance running. The runners are also impressed by excellent arch support and the overall protection of the foot. But the thing the runners like the most about the New Balance 1080 is the reinforced heel which is truly made for the toughest heel strikers. Shortly after its release, the New Balance 1080 was named the “Best Neutral Running Shoe“ by the Running Network.
The difference between the New Balance 1080 and its predecessor which was, by the way, an excellent running shoe as well is more than obvious. The N-ergy cushioning featuring ABZORB Stroble Board provides a much better shock absorption, while the midfoot support helps prevent foot pain. Another great feature is the Ndurance outsole which helps prevent wear and tear due to heavy use and increases the durability of the sneakers. The New Balance 1080 is really made for long mileage runners in every aspect and provides maximum comfort and performance. Would I recommend the New Balance 1080? Absolutely! It delivers everything it promises. And at a great price too. You can choose between two colors – silver with black and white, and white with red and black.
